Michael Phelps won 8 medals in the 2004 Olympic Summer Games in Athens, 6 of which were gold, which tied the record for medals at a single Olympics. There was an article last weekend in the USA Today, that described his physical traits, 6′4″ height, 6′7″ wingspan and long torso, as giving him a natural edge in the pool. However, the strongest attribute according to his coach is what goes on in his mind as he races.
To which Phelps answered “It’s either nothing, or I have to get my hand on the wall before they do.”
Have you ever been so engrossed in what you’re doing, so conditioned, so tuned-in that all there was, was an absence of thought?
